About Me

A little about me. In my normal life, I am a civil engineer who sits behind a desk everyday. I got married to my wonderful husband in 2006. Since meeting him and our many days of eating out and less working out, my weight started to creep up. In August 2007 my girlfriend wanted to get back in shape after her pregnancy. She talked me into running weekly with her. I agreed, and this began my plan to get my body back in shape. I wanted to add some additional workouts to my run, so I pulled out my old Slim in 6 videos. At the same time, I re-found the online message boards at Beachbody where I meet a lot of great people who kept me committed to my fitness goals. I also found a great coach who was there everyday to help me stay on track! Today, I'm still working to sculpt my body and get it into the best shape ever. As I have progressed through my body's transition, I decided to become an Independent Beachbody Coach to help others reach their fitness goals! I realized it was easier then I thought, and I really believe others can change their lives too!

ChaLean Extreme, Do I need to do more?

I have been getting a lot of people emailing me asking me - I'm in week 1 of Chalean Extreme but I fell like I need to add more workouts in, can I do more?

This is a hard question to just answer, so I want to give you my thoughts/advice.

First, let me say, I have been working out almost everyday since Aug. 2006!  So, I'm not by any means a newbie.  I've done Slim in 6, Slim Series, Turbo Jam, P90X, P90X+,....

I am following the program as written, with the only exception, on Day 2, it calls for a rest day.  I have been adding in ab burner for just a little something.

I am currently in week 3 of Chalean Extreme.  And I am really seeing results!  I believe, I have been seeing results since week 2!  I feel like I am getting stronger.  I feel toner and tighter everywhere.  I feel like my butt is getting smaller and my abs are definitely getting more toned!  So, my first piece of advice, is TRUST THE PROCESS!  The results will come, you must just trust the process and believe it will work!

I also believe that by day 7, my body is screaming for that rest day!  My legs are wiped out, my arms are tired, I am feeling my abs.  I know that each workout I did my best.  I went heavy, I went slow, I hit failure with all moves.  I know that each day I was dripping wet with sweat.  Heck, there were even days I thought I needed the bucket next to me, just in case!  But, these workouts are short and intense, and I made sure I brought it as the program calls for.  Then, by day 7, its dying for a day off.

That said, if you are asking, do I need to do more workouts, my question back would be- are you really bringing it?  Are you pushing it to failure?  Are you going low in your squats?  Are you hitting failure?  Are you wiped out at the end of the the week?  If you are answering yes to all of the questions, hitting failure, using the best form to get the most out of it, and just pushing it to the limit.  But, if you still need more, then I will go to my next question.

If you are a newbie and Chalean Extreme is one of the first programs you have done in a while, my answer would be to say- do not add in more any extra workouts.  Again, trust the process!  But, also, if you are adding more in to get "faster" results, there are so many other things you need to know.  Are you eating enough to go with your added workouts?  Are you pushing your body to much or are you giving it the proper rest?  I do not want people to over-train!  If you are new, you may not know the signs of over-training.  And, that could be dangerous.  Over-training will only set you back!  So, trust the program, trust the process and go with what is scheduled. No need to throw in extra workouts to get results faster.  The results will come!

If you are more experienced with working out, and you honestly believe that you still need more then the program, then maybe you can add in a little extra cardio.  I would say, only add in one extra workout a week until you know how much your body can handle!  I know as a more experienced athlete, you know your body, know your limits.  So, push yourself, but do not cross your limits!

My final comment, I keep saying this- Trust the process!  Remember, Chalene prepared this program.  She had test groups.  The results will come.  People all over the place are doing the program and saying the same thing, they are seeing results in the first few weeks!  If you are doing this to get the results "faster", its not always the safe move.  You may not have gotten to where you are at today overnight, so your results will not come overnight!  But, do the program as written, its only 90 days.  After the program ends, what do you do?  You can decide then?  Do the program again?  Up the intensity then?  Do another program like P90X?  The possibilities are endless.

If you would like to email me, we can talk about your situation.  Let's discuss before you just start adding more workouts into your program.  My first question will be, are you going extreme?  I can be reached at HeatherB@BeachbodyCoach.com.

Now, remember- Go Heavy or Go Home!
