About Me

My photo
A little about me. In my normal life, I am a civil engineer who sits behind a desk everyday. I got married to my wonderful husband in 2006. Since meeting him and our many days of eating out and less working out, my weight started to creep up. In August 2007 my girlfriend wanted to get back in shape after her pregnancy. She talked me into running weekly with her. I agreed, and this began my plan to get my body back in shape. I wanted to add some additional workouts to my run, so I pulled out my old Slim in 6 videos. At the same time, I re-found the online message boards at Beachbody where I meet a lot of great people who kept me committed to my fitness goals. I also found a great coach who was there everyday to help me stay on track! Today, I'm still working to sculpt my body and get it into the best shape ever. As I have progressed through my body's transition, I decided to become an Independent Beachbody Coach to help others reach their fitness goals! I realized it was easier then I thought, and I really believe others can change their lives too!

I hate to cook

Ok, I admit it. I hate to cook. You know why I hate to cook, I hate the process of figuring out what to eat. Have you ever asked your family, what do you want for dinner. I ask my husband that and get I dunno, or I don't care, or something similar to that all the time. It drives me crazy. So, then I hit the grocery store after work and wonder around going, what am I going to make.

Now, if you know me, my cooking skills are fairly limited. I'm kind of boring. If you ask me to pick something up for dinner, normally it would be chicken or fish, add a veggie and because I dunno what else, I would add in rice or pasta. But, you also know that I like to watch what I eat. And carbs for dinner at night was typically not on my menu. So, that meant no pasta or rice for me and a very boring dinner!

I have to say, Beachbody has revised their meal plan. Their menu has been totally expanded. I am beginning to fall in love with this! Here is why.

First, for those who don't know how to eat or how much to eat or what kind of diet they should follow, they give you a way to determine which will best suit your needs. I choose a 1500 calorie slim down as my typically planner. It fits, plus I know I can up/lower the calories a little based on what I did for the day. This makes it simple for those just getting started, because we all know a good healthy diet is hard to figure out! But, it's also the most important step.

Ok, so now I am in my diet, I go to the various meals and pick them out. I still may not follow the whole meal plan exactly as written. Like, I don't eat bacon, so bacon and eggs not going to happen. For me, I'd up modifying this meal to replace the bacon. (I know with the program you can save/modify meals and keep them as favorites for later, I still haven't gotten that far into using it yet.)

But, the other day I picked out 2 of the meals for the weekend. I wanted to try the Pesto Chicken Artichoke Wrap for lunch and the Scrumptious Salmon Cakes for dinner. I absolutely loved that I could just quickly print the meal, all the ingredients, and the how to cook instructions so that I could take it to the store with me then also keep on the counter to cook. Plus, when I printed it out, it was an entire meal. The salmon cakes meal had a pasta penne side dish with cheese and sun dried tomatoes! (yes, I did eat my pasta, but substituted whole wheat pasta in, so felt ok about it) and for dessert raspberries! I loved that I did not have to search through a cookbook, then right a list, then leave my book on the counter to get all messy (yes, I am also a messy cook, ask my hubby what the kitchen looks like when I'm done. )

I also loved that I could log on to the meal plan from my iphone. It was perfect to check while I was in the store trying pick up stuff for a healthy snack option that I decided on while there not pre-thinking like I should have done! I will use this the next time I stop at the grocery store on the fly home. I can quickly look up a meal, pull up the ingredient list and shop!

Anyway, I made the pesto chicken wrap for lunch. I chopped up the chicken in my Magic Bullet blender! HA, that thing can make more then Shakeology or protein shakes! This wrap was so easy. I loved the flavor of the pesto and the artichoke. It was a perfect light summer meal that I will make again! I also doubled the recipe so I could have enough for my husband. I think we ended up making at least 4 wraps from it! There was no need to really double it, but now I had lunch for the next day too!

Then last night I made the Salmon Cakes. Being from Maryland, I love crab cakes, but hate all the filling they throw into it, so was a little concerned at first how these would turn out. I have to say, these were really easy to make. I did swap out corn flakes with a little bread crumbs (don't worry, it's not a lot that you throw in, only like 2 spoonfuls or so). I also made the pasta with sun-dried tomatoes and cheese. I used blackberries for dessert since I couldn't find the raspberries. I'm also concerned that my husband will hate my "healthy" cooking. Mainly because as I noted above, I try to cook healthy, but that usually lead to boring and bland! Well, I got the seal of approval from Michael! I can cook! And knowing that I can do it a little easier with the right tools, I may just do more of it! (Yes, in this terrible economy, going out to dinner is way to expensive. So, we need to change. Plus, it will help me stay on track with reaching my goals)

I will definitely be using more of the club meal planner. I may let it just print the entire shopping list for my entire week and just follow it one day! Why spend time re-creating it when it will do it for me. (And, yes, you can take out meals you don't like and replace them with some of your favorites. Time is so limited these days, I need an assistant! This meal plan is my personal assistant to a healthy menu! Ok, it would still be nice if I had a personal chef, but this will have to do for now!

If your like me and you hate to cook or don't know what to cook, but are looking for a healthy way to stay on track. I really recommend you check out the new Beachbody Meal Planner. Yes, it costs $2.99 a week, but for it to give you endless meals, your entire week planned out to your meal plan requirements, a shopping list,... it makes it so worth it (plus all the other club tools you get!)
You can learn more about the club meal plan on my website at http://www.HeathersFitnessSpot.com, go to the Join tab. Or you can join today and download your recipe for tonight's dinner at http://preview.tinyurl.com/BeAClubMember

Ok, now maybe I can say - I like to cook!

Have a great day!

Breaking a Plateau

Have you hit a plateau?  Here is a quick little video to help you push through your plateau.

I bet the diet ones are my favorite tips.  From checking out how many cheats you were having in a week, or how many calories you really are eating.

I know that when I hit a plateau and just am not getting the results I want I look first at my diet and I need to be honest with myself.  What exactly did I put in my mouth all week?  Yes, that M&M counted, yup it was only one.  But was it only 1 ten times in the day?  Or did I drink maybe a sweet tea a few times in the week?  These little things do add up, so pay attention to your diet and be honest with yourself.  If you need to, I say write down everything you eat for a week.  Then go to fitday.com and log it in to see if you are in your calorie range.  Are you really eating 1600 calories a day, or are you eating more like 1800?  You May be surprised!  Not sure how many calories you should be eating, if you are a Beachbody Club member, just go to the Eat Smart Tab then Nutritional Tools Tab to find the Caloric Needs Calculator!  (You can become a Club Member by joining here)

My other thing I do when I hit a plateau, I look at my workouts.  Have I been slacking, missing one to many workouts.  Maybe just not using the full intensity I know I have?  Or have I been more or less going through the motions?  I also look to see if I mixed it up?  I love resistance work and make sure to add that in every other day.  I also am one of those people who can get bored, so I tend to change my workouts a lot.  Meaning, this month I may do P90X and next I may do Chalean Extreme, and next I may do Turbo Jam.  But, I want to make sure that when I switch it up, I also am mixing up the intensity.  If I get in a rut and do Turbo Jam for a long period of time, my body gets a little to relaxed and use to the moves, so I know I need to add more to it.  Make sure to use heavier weights or add the hand gloves where I didn't before, or use the tube bands on the leg.  Yup, it may be harder, but the body wants a little challenge to break through the plateau.

Again, be honest with yourself first!  Now, watch this quick video for other tips!  And finally, if you need help on your fitness journey, please drop me an email at HeatherB@BeachbodyCoach.com.  Let's talk about your goals and how you will get there!

Have a FIT day!

Healthy Knees

BNN this week has a quick little video on helping your knees!  I get so many questions on how to prevent injury to knees.  I'd recommend just watching this for a few quick tips.  I'd also recommend Total Body Solution to help recover or prevent knee injuries.

I know if you are a club member, there are also additional trainer tips on how to modify moves!

My biggest tip, pay attention to form!  Go slow at first and really learn the moves!

If you would like help or motivation to reach your fitness goals, I'd love to be your FREE coach!  I'm here to help you succeed.  Just click here, complete the short form.  It would be lovely if you dropped me an email and introduced yourself then!

Beachbody = Fun!

Dream Extreme

Me and Tony

I always talk about Beachbody and the Coaching Opportunities they have.  For as little as $40 you can start your own fitness business.  Beachbody is a simple at home business that you can do as much or as little as you want.  But, knowing that being a coach can put a few extra bucks in your pocket that can pay for you and your significant other to go to dinner and a movie or it can be as great as paying your mortgage!

But, have I told you how much FUN we have as Beachbody Coaches!  Beachbody just threw their yearly Coaching Summit at Universal Studios in Los Angeles, CA last weekend.  They had like 700 coaches from across the country come together for fun, training, and to see the Million Dollar Body Game Finalist take home a combined $800,000!

This was an opportunity where we all got to meet and talk about our lives, or business, or tips,...  It was yet another way Beachbody is helping their coaches grow their business.

Ok, so where is the fun in the training.  Well, we started Friday night off with a group workout.  We got to pick our favorite trainer to workout with.  I choose a Turbo Jam workout with Chalene.  I got to watch her kick my butt in person!  But, it was fun!  She had the chance to show off some of her new moves, and yes, they follow her typically dancing and having a ball when you workout!  Then, after the workout she took a minute to pose for pictures with her fellow followers!

Me and Chalene

Later that night, they had a Diamond Dinner, where all the top coaches could come together to share ideas, meet the Beachbody team, and just plan relax!

Saturday morning, started off with another fun group workout.  This time it was all 500 or more of us outside at the Universal Studios City Walk.  We were treated to a 15 minute workout with all the trainers.  We warmed up to some Yoga Booty Ballet.  Then moved onto an intense workout with Shaun T who gave us a glimpse of his new workout Insanity (yes, he killed us all!).  The day continued with some Debbie Seibers (Slim in 6), Tanya (the new Shakeology workouts), Chalene Johnson with her Fat Blaster, and of course Tony Horton with his ten minute trainer routines!   It was a blast!  There was so much energy in the group!

Group Workout

The day continued with a little training for the coaches.  Learning new and exciting ways to help our coachees!  But, quickly moved into the what's coming next year with Beachbody!  Trust me, there are some awesome programs coming out.  The Shaun T.  Insanity, there is this Brazlin Butt Lift program coming out, some new Turbo Jam.  My oh my, I can't even being to tell you the exciting stuff!  Plus, the release of the ohhh so yummy Shakeology!  If you haven't ordered it, I'm not sure what you are waiting for!

So, not only can Beachbody change your life with getting you healthy and in the best shape of your life, it can also help you have some financial security and the best part- YOU CAN MEET A TON OF NEW FRIENDS FROM AROUND THE COUNTRY!

If you would like to learn more about any of the stuff I talked about in this post, then please stop by my website at TheFitnessSpot.net or drop me an email at HeatherB@BeachbodyCoach.com!  I'd love to have some fun, motivated people on my team!

Lesson 5:  Join the Club.
You already know Beachbody makes some of the world's most fun, effective weight loss and fitness programs.  But did you know it pairs them with some of the most dynamic, supportive tools and social communities available anywhere?  It is all here for your success!

Today I want to talk about the Team Beachbody Club.
The Club is a premium tool from Beachbody that helps you learn more, have fun, and another way to make fitness a part of your everyday life!

It has too many features to list them all, so I'll tell you about my favorite things, Letterman style.

Top Ten Reasons to join the Team Beachbody Club:
If you are already a member, the links below will be active and will take you to each part of the club.  If you are not a member, click here to join RISK FREE for 30 days (only $2.99 a week, billed $38.87 quarterly in advance to the credit card you provide. 10.  Slim style.   You will lose so much weight with your program, that none of your clothes will fit.  I know you'll be proud of your new body, but that doesn't mean you can run around naked!  Since you'll have to buy new clothes anyway, you might as well look good in them!  In Slim Style, DannyTeeson shows you how to make the most of your new look!

9.  Everything is on sale!  Club members get 10% off all the great Beachbody fitness programs including Chalene Extreme and Ten minute trainer, P90X, and Project:YOU type 2.  They also get the special 10% club discount on Activit, Slimming Formula, 2-day fast, core Omega-3, and Beachbody's complete line of supplements designed specifically for active people!

8.  Thin Kitchen!   Danny's recipe for healthy pumpkin cookies is TDF!  Also, be sure to watch the episode on portion control.

7.  Trainer tips.  These are worth the club membership alone!    In the Trainer Tips area, Beachbody's celebrity trainers Chalene Johnson, Shawn T, and Tony Horton, and others tell you how to get the absolute most from the programs they designed.  You are working hard to get Great Results (I'm so proud of you!!).  This is a spot to help you be efficient and workout smart as well as hard!

6.  BNN Here's an example episode.  It talks about the importance of Before Pictures (gee, where have you heard that?!)  and a new study on the benefits of red wine.

5.  The meal planner that prints out a grocery list for the week.  Can they make eating healthy any easier?

4. VIP chats with celebrity trainers!   Because you know you are a VIP!  This gives you member only access to live chats with your favorite trainers!  I wonder what kind of rant that crazy Tony Horton will go on next!

3.  Get inspired! If you ever feel you can't relate to these fit people, or that you'll never get results, just watch a couple of Beachbody success story videos.  They are real people just like you who got fantastic results.  When you start listening to their stories, you realize that you can do it too!!

2.  Win some money!
Club members are automatically entered in the daily Supergym Sweepstakes every time they log in to WOWY, the online gym!  You could win up to $1,000 just for logging in your workout!  I won 300 bucks by logging in a while back.  I cant' wait for the next time I win!

1. Win BIG Money!  How big?  How about 25 THOUSAND dollars big!
Million Dollar Body Game gives away $1,000 each to 8 success stories every month.  But that's not all, they also give two prizes of $25,000 for the best male and female Transformation stories of the year!  But you can't win if you are not a club member!

There you have it.  My top 10 reasons to join the club.  You'll get all this and more for less than the price one Starbucks a week!  (and unlike your latte, this has zero calories and is 100% good for you!   There's no risk because if you don't like it, you can cancel within 30 days for a FULL REFUND!

Your homework

1.  Join the club.  (If you are not already a member.)  It costs $39.95 for three months, - only $2.99 per week.  It may just be the best thing under $3 since sliced whole grain bread.  (Is bread still under $3?) ((And remember, you can cancel within 30 days for a full refund!))

2.  Set up your meal plan and print your groceries for the week.  Email your coach (at HeatherB@BeachbodyCoach.com) if you have any questions.

3.  Make it a part of your day! This is KEY!  Every day, watch one inspiring success story, BNN story, read one trainer tip, or try one new healthy recipe.  It doesn't have to take much time.  It is a great way to keep healthy choices present and right in the front of your brain every day!

Doc's Dirty Little Secret: Everything we do here is all about making healthy living part of your every day life.  It isn't really about 90 days or 6 weeks, it is about healthy changes you can live with.  (But if they called it Power 90 Years, or Slim in 6 then the rest of your life, it wouldn't be as catchy!)

Enjoy your week!
Keep Pushing Play.

Debbie's Top 10 Tips to Get the Most out of Slim in 6™

1.Train smart!
2.Sign on to the Team Beachbody Message Boards and WOWY™.
3.Fast for two days.
4.Start slow.
5.Ease up when sore; push when healthy.
6.Supplement your diet.
7.Work out on an empty stomach.
8.Eat a post-exercise snack.
9.Add more weight resistance as you get stronger.
10.Do Slim & Limber daily.

1. Train smart!

Read all of the literature. When it comes to fitness, knowledge
reigns supreme. The more you know, the better chance you
have of succeeding. By reading the Slim in 6 Simple Steps to
Success! guidebook, the Step-by-Step Nutrition Guide, and
old Team Beachbodynewsletters when you have time, you
will amass a mental arsenal that will help you out every
single day.

2. Sign on to the Team Beachbody Message Boards
and WOWY™.

Join the Slim in 6 Newbie group. You won't believe how
motivating the boards can be. You'll be instantly hooked
up with thousands of virtual training partners, along with
a wealth of fitness and diet advice.

3. Fast for two days.

There is no reason to put off changing your life and,
unless you're eating right now, you've already started.
All you have to do is not eat. Fasting cleanses your
body of built-up toxins, gets your body used to utilizing
stored fat as energy, and shrinks your stomach. If you
didn't purchase Team Beachbody's 2-Day Fast Formula
shake, make yourself a veggie juice and/or herb tea
fast. Any weight you lose is really just a bonus. The main
benefits of the fast will come later when you crave less
junk food. Plus, you now have two days to get ahead on
your reading.

4. Start slow.

Don't launch into day 1 after watching G.I. Jane. Take
it easy, even if you feel like you can do more. You
want to gradually increase the intensity each day and
let your body adapt. If you start too hard, you'll end up
very sore by injuring your “emergency muscle fibers”
and it can take up to two weeks to heal. During the first
few workouts, you should feel as though you could have
gone a little harder. You'll still be sore, but it will be a
good and manageable soreness. Day 2 should be harder
than day 1, day 3 harder than day 2, and so on.

5. Ease up when sore; push when healthy.

Once you adapt to the program, you'll want to go as
hard as you can each workout, well, usually. Occasionally
you will overdo it, under eat, or under sleep, and your
body will break down to the point where it's lethargic.
This state is called being overtrained. By looking for its
onset, you can often counteract it before it gets you down.
If you find that you are having a difficult time in workouts
that were easy days before, back off a bit. Maybe take a
day or two and do Start It Up! in place of Ramp It Up!, or
Ramp It Up! in place of Burn It Up! Don't feel like you're
going backwards; you're not. These easier days will allow
your muscles to heal up and you should be rarin' to go
again in no time.

6. Supplement your diet.

Given today's fast and processed food environment, it's
nearly impossible to get all the nutrients you need while
staying within your proper caloric zone, especially if you're
tying to lose weight! Proper supplementation will ensure
that you have all the nutrients your body needs to rebuild
itself after intense exercise. At the very minimum, take a
good multi-vitamin.

7. Work out on an empty stomach.

This doesn't mean that you have to work out first thing
in the morning (though it is a good idea). It just means
that your stomach should be empty when you begin your
work out. Give yourself three hours after eating to exercise.
If you can't do this, eat a small snack instead of a meal.
This will mean that there is no excess food digesting in
your stomach, but you have proper stored glycogen to
get you through your workout without bonking.

8. Eat a post-exercise snack.

Ideally, you should have used most of your stored glycogen
to finish your workout. You now have a window between 15
minutes and one hour after exercise when your body is at
its peak to absorb nutrients (up to four times better than at
any other time). You want to eat a small snack during this
period that is four parts carbohydrates to one part protein.
The high carb content is because your body wants to replenish
its glycogen stores as quickly as possible. This will speed up
your recovery and make you less sore. A little protein kick
starts muscle resynthesis as well. Keep this meal very light,
under 300 calories, and it should allow you to recover and
keep you from getting hungry until you eat a proper meal,
two to three hours later.

9. Add more weight resistance as you get stronger.

Just because Slim in 6 is a slimming program, don't be
afraid to lift as much weight as possible. You should
increase weight resistance throughout the program as
your fitness increases. Skip the rationalization of "I must
lift light weights if I want to get thin." Don't worry, the
volume and intensity of the program will keep you
slimming down. You still want to lift as much weight as
you can.

10. Do Slim & Limber daily.

While you can stretch too much, it's awfully hard to do,
and nearly impossible when engaged in a program like
Slim in 6. A daily dose of Slim & Limber may be just
what the doctor ordered to help you recover to your
body's potential. But don't feel like you always have
to get in front of your TV. Once you've memorized the
routine, you can do these stretches almost anywhere. An
abbreviated session whenever you get the chance will
help too. Get in the habit of stretching whenever you get
a sec: in front of the TV, waiting in line, when you first
wake up, and before you go to bed. A few minutes in the
morning and at night can give you a whole new lease on
life, especially life during Slim in 6.

Beachbody TV offers a series called Trainer Tips.    In this area, you can hear Tony or Debbie personally give you some ideas to improve form, get you through your workout, and a lot of other topics.   There is also a section on BB TV about Slim Styles.   Here they talk about fashion and what looks good on your body type.  Ok, you lost all that weight, so not look good in the cloths you buy.  Take a minute to listen to the fashion tips.  One of the other topics on BB-TV is Thin Kitchen.  Not a cook, well just stop by the Thin Kitchen for a few ideas how to make cooking fun and healthy.
Diet and Nutrition
This is my favorite area.  Here you can learn the basic calorie needs required for your height, weight, age and based on what program you are working on.  They will tell you the calories per day to maintain weight and the calories you need to eat to lose weight.  How easy is that.  It gets better, they then have a section where it will print out sample menus for a week.  So, if you are eating a 1600 meal plan, let them plan out all your meals for you.  From breakfast, lunch, dinner and your snacks.  Wait, it gets even easier, they they actually give you a shopping list for everything on that menu!  That now takes all the guess work out of it for you.  They just told you the calories you need and give you a menu, and a shopping list.
In this area, you can find out your healthy body mass index and what your body fat is?
Exercise and Fitness
In this section you can find articles about health and fitness.  Some of these articles come from the trainers themselves.  An example of a current article- How to prevent muscle soreness.  There are also more videos on trainer tips specific to each workout.  These trainers are taking time to show the moves or modified moves, or just help you with your workout.
There is so much more.  I couldn't even tell you.  Is it worth it?  I'd say yes.  If you just ordered a product, the Million Dollar Body Club is free for 30 days.  If you are over the 30 day period, its only $39 for 3 months.  I just believe the club is one more tool to help you achieve your goals!
