About Me

A little about me. In my normal life, I am a civil engineer who sits behind a desk everyday. I got married to my wonderful husband in 2006. Since meeting him and our many days of eating out and less working out, my weight started to creep up. In August 2007 my girlfriend wanted to get back in shape after her pregnancy. She talked me into running weekly with her. I agreed, and this began my plan to get my body back in shape. I wanted to add some additional workouts to my run, so I pulled out my old Slim in 6 videos. At the same time, I re-found the online message boards at Beachbody where I meet a lot of great people who kept me committed to my fitness goals. I also found a great coach who was there everyday to help me stay on track! Today, I'm still working to sculpt my body and get it into the best shape ever. As I have progressed through my body's transition, I decided to become an Independent Beachbody Coach to help others reach their fitness goals! I realized it was easier then I thought, and I really believe others can change their lives too!

Slow and Steady Wins the Race

I know this has been said before by others, but so worth repeating.  To get to your ultimate goal will happen if you stay the course and commit to it.  That means eating clean say 80-90% of the time (the cleaner you eat the better, the more cheat days, will slow progress.)  Add in that you should be working out 6 days a week, and you are well on the way to meeting your goal!

That said, so many people want to double up on their workouts (meaning do more then one workout a day).  A little workout in the morning and a little workout in the afternoon.  Or, you do a rotation of Turbo Jam where you do say Fat Blaster and you follow it up by TJ 20 minutes.  Or maybe you are doing P90X and you add in say some Slim in 6 Burn it Up for extra cardio.  Your thoughts are the more I do the more I will burn and the faster the results.

Here are my personal thoughts!  I have been working out pretty close to 6 days a week, typically not less then 4 and eating clean for almost a year now.  My results are amazing in my eyes in how much I have changed in a year.  During that year, I did everything Beachbody has it seems like.  I did Slim in 6, I did many phase 1 and 2 of P90X, I did slim series, I did Turbo Jam, I and I did some Hip Hop Abs.  I added days were I went running or counted my sailing or did some other outside activity.  But, I almost never did doubles!  Ok, there was a week in there where I was committed to getting up early and running on the elliptical then doing my X workout at night.  That lasted about 3 days and I said, nope sleep is more important and I don't want to double up on workouts!  Did I get results, heck yeah!  Did I spend hours a day getting there, nope!

What do I think if others want to double up?  I say, first, don't do doubles until you have been working out consistently for 6 days a week for at least 2-3 months!  I want you to get use to your routines and I want you to make working out a habit that is fun and enjoyable.  I want you to listen to your body and know when you had enough!  I want you to learn proper workouts and what can be paired together to create a good rotation!  I want you to learn how much you need to eat to substain those workouts!  I basically want you to know what you are doing and give yourself the time you need to learn the process and your body!

What I don't want is you going all out and doing all these doubles, only to realize in a month or 2 that you have hit the wall.  You have overtrained, you have gotten yourself tired of pushing it through and doing hours of workouts!  And, the end result is you QUIT!  That, is not the goal of this whole thing.  The goal is to get in shape, get healthy and have fun.  Sure there will be days you have extra energy!  Then go for it!  Add in another half hour workout here and there.  I would not do this everyday though.  I would make sure its every other day so your body can rest!

Basically, I go back to my original comment- Slow and Steady wins the race.  Getting fit and healthy is not a race!  It's a lifestyle change!  Beachbody products work!  Give them the time and stay committed and you will see results!  It does not take hours a day of working out to hit your goal!  Now, think about where you are in your process.  Are you doing doubles?  If so, are you listening to your body- Are you giving yourself adequate recovery times, are you eating enough to do that much working out, are you burning yourself out and leading to overtraining?  These are a few questions you need to ask yourself and talk to your coach about!  Let them know your plans so they can help watch signs of overtraining!
