About Me

A little about me. In my normal life, I am a civil engineer who sits behind a desk everyday. I got married to my wonderful husband in 2006. Since meeting him and our many days of eating out and less working out, my weight started to creep up. In August 2007 my girlfriend wanted to get back in shape after her pregnancy. She talked me into running weekly with her. I agreed, and this began my plan to get my body back in shape. I wanted to add some additional workouts to my run, so I pulled out my old Slim in 6 videos. At the same time, I re-found the online message boards at Beachbody where I meet a lot of great people who kept me committed to my fitness goals. I also found a great coach who was there everyday to help me stay on track! Today, I'm still working to sculpt my body and get it into the best shape ever. As I have progressed through my body's transition, I decided to become an Independent Beachbody Coach to help others reach their fitness goals! I realized it was easier then I thought, and I really believe others can change their lives too!

Can I be an Instructor?

Yesterday was a long day of sweating! It started at 9 am when I walked into a Turbo Kick training class to become an instructor! I want to lead my friends in group workouts, and being a Turbo Jam fan and a fan of Chalene Johnson, I thought - why not go for it and see if I can take and pass this class!

It's funny, I never took a real Turbo Kick class. I did sit in a few of Chalene's Turbo Fire classes, so I guess that is close? So, my only preparation for the class was my experience with Turbo Jam. But, I think it gave me enough background to take the instructor class.
The class was fun. It was a lot of good information on Turbo Kick and their classes. How to teach, from safety, forms, to cueing! But, it was the workouts that made the day!

We did some form work in the morning. Lots of ways to teach proper kicks, punches and learning the other fun moves that make Turbo Kick classes so fun! Then we did a master workout! That was at least an hour class with all these other instructors and gym members. A full blow, maximum intensity class! No holding back, so added jumps and burbees to make it as hard as possible for us! So, needless to say, by the end of the workout I was a dripping mess!

The day went on though, we had more class work, more form work. Then it was time for our testing. The written part wasn't too hard. Most of what was on the test was discussed during the day. The practical portion was hard after being tired all day, but overall it wasn't too bad. She was checking forms to see if what we learned during the day was being done properly. I'm sure she will send feedback on stuff that we need to fix! But, you really can't fail, just get a "nee more training". So, I'm hoping I can pass and that I passed the test! That will then allow me to actually teach the class!

So, the next question will be not- can I be an instructor? It's gonna be will and when will I be an instructor? I walked away with at least 12 different classes, that is a lot to practice and learn. As, I have a few weeks to get the final results on if I passed. But, in those weeks, I can practice practice practice to be the best I can be. Then when my results come back, if I want to teach I can! And, I just maybe holding workouts in the park or something? So, if you live near me, keep an eye open for fun stuff to come!

One more goal is now checked off my list! Pass or Fail, I went out of my comfort zone and took the class! Are you reaching your goals?

I'm glad you enjoyed your class. It sounds like it was a tough but really fun class and I hope you pass.
