About Me

My photo
A little about me. In my normal life, I am a civil engineer who sits behind a desk everyday. I got married to my wonderful husband in 2006. Since meeting him and our many days of eating out and less working out, my weight started to creep up. In August 2007 my girlfriend wanted to get back in shape after her pregnancy. She talked me into running weekly with her. I agreed, and this began my plan to get my body back in shape. I wanted to add some additional workouts to my run, so I pulled out my old Slim in 6 videos. At the same time, I re-found the online message boards at Beachbody where I meet a lot of great people who kept me committed to my fitness goals. I also found a great coach who was there everyday to help me stay on track! Today, I'm still working to sculpt my body and get it into the best shape ever. As I have progressed through my body's transition, I decided to become an Independent Beachbody Coach to help others reach their fitness goals! I realized it was easier then I thought, and I really believe others can change their lives too!

My time with Slim in 6

I decided to start Slim in 6 on a whim. I actually ordered Hip Hop Abs and thought it would be great to add to my running. While waiting for the order to arrive I started SN6. As I mentioned before, I also got on the message boards for the extra help and motivation to keep moving.

I remember my first day getting through that first workout - Start it up. I also vividly remember the day after. I was so sore from doing all the squats and lunges that I could barely walk. I thought just sitting down to use the toilet was to painful. I remember thinking, here I am trying to get in shape and get moving again and I am hurting so bad!  I actually took day 2 off to let me body slightly recover from day 1. I thought, wow this is going to be a long road ahead.

Day 3 came and I just decided to take it a little easier, I wasn't going to go through all that pain again. I continued through the program, I soon moved on to Ramp it Up. There, I thought I would never make it through all those leg lifts. But, I kept pushing play and I kept visiting my message boards (threads) to talk to others also going through the program and talking about all their ups and downs.

Once week 3 came, it was time to move up to Burn it Up. Oh my god, I remember hearing on the message boards about Debbie being on crack, but boy was I blown away. She moved so fast and the moves had me soaking wet. I took many breaks the first few days to try and finish the tape without dying. I also thought there would never be a day that I would get through every single leg lift.

But, each day I showed up. Each day I got a little better then the last day. It was nice feeling a little stronger as I moved through it. Burn it up was working, I felt the improvements. As I moved into weeks 4 and 5, I really started noticing a difference. I remember lying in bed at night and thinking, I am just melting. I truly felt like the fat was just melting away.  My body was burning those calories even hours after the workout ended. I thought there is no way I could be melting.

I also remember, my girlfriends starting to comment how they were beginning to notice my weight loss. Now, I was even more excited to keep going. I was going to finish this.

I got into last week. I could see the end, only a few more days to go. I thought my god this is getting boring. I have done the same workout for the last 3 weeks. My body was getting very tired. It was screaming for me to just quit. I continued to log on and talk to my new found friends. They continued to push me, saying you can do it, you are almost done. You will feel so great to graduate. Each day, I just did it. I just pushed play, I didn't think about it.

I was almost done, I was probably at day 38 when I realized- I did it! I managed to do every single one of those stupid leg lifts. I couldn't believe it. I was so surprised remembering the beginning and thinking there was never going to be a day, and then bang, here it was. And, that helped push me a little more. Now, I only had a few more days I knew I could do it.

Then finally, it was over. 42 workouts done. It was a great achievement. Not only did I finish 6 long hard weeks of Debbie, I was feeling better, happier, healthier and yes thinner!

I lost 1 full pants size in that time. I had just lost 11 lbs with SN6 and running. I also lost over 8.5". I may have lost more, but since I started on a whim, I never took my initial measurements. One of my biggest regrets was not having day 1 pictures and measurements to show where I came from. It was a great feeling. I was starting a new life. My new life would involve working out and eating right. I was starting new habits and I planned on sticking with it.

My next challenge, I was going to move on to P90X. I wasn't going to get my streak end here. I had the drive to go further!

Great blog Heather. I'd like for you to be my coach. I'm already a member of BeachBody, so I can't sign up on your site, but I'm not sure how to sign you up as my coach from the site. Your story so encouraging.
