About Me

My photo
A little about me. In my normal life, I am a civil engineer who sits behind a desk everyday. I got married to my wonderful husband in 2006. Since meeting him and our many days of eating out and less working out, my weight started to creep up. In August 2007 my girlfriend wanted to get back in shape after her pregnancy. She talked me into running weekly with her. I agreed, and this began my plan to get my body back in shape. I wanted to add some additional workouts to my run, so I pulled out my old Slim in 6 videos. At the same time, I re-found the online message boards at Beachbody where I meet a lot of great people who kept me committed to my fitness goals. I also found a great coach who was there everyday to help me stay on track! Today, I'm still working to sculpt my body and get it into the best shape ever. As I have progressed through my body's transition, I decided to become an Independent Beachbody Coach to help others reach their fitness goals! I realized it was easier then I thought, and I really believe others can change their lives too!

Why go to the gym?

I use to have a gym membership.  I actually quickly became a static.  You know, one of the many people who buy a year membership only to go a few times a year!  When I was going to the gym on a regular basis, it too the desire to pack a gym bag, actually go to the gym, get everything in a locker because someone might steal my shoes or something, then about 45 minutes from when I left my house I could actually start my workout.  My gym workout consisted mainly of running on a treadmill or an elliptical trainer.  Occasionally I would do a few reps of something on the machines.  That was a joke.  I never understood how to set the machine for my height, or the required weight.  I never really know what it was supposed to do or how to put a good rotation together (meaning upper body, lower body.)  But, after "playing around" for an hour, I'd go back to the locker room, change and run to my car to get home and shower.  Why shower in the locker room, when I could be in my own house!  After while, I found that using the machines just became boring and not productive.  So, I signed up for the crowded classes and hoped the ones I wanted to take were not full or offered when I wasn't at work!
I finally decided to no longer become a number at the gym and let me membership come to an end.
Then I found Beachbody and all their great workouts.  I found that if I wanted something fun like a cardio class would offer- I would pop in Turbo Jam or Hip Hop Abs.  I believe their routines make me feel like I am right there with the class.  If I want to build m resistance, I'll pop in my Slim in Six, Slim Series or P90x.  I felt the best part of these workouts was the advice on how to do the moves properly.  Something, no one ever seemed to mention or help me with in the many years of going to the gym.
There are so many other advantages to doing my workout at home.
1.  I no longer have to force myself to "go workout", because they only place I need to go is my living room.
2.  By not having to get in a car and drive there, my total workout time is literally as long as it takes to throw my outfit on and push ply for the length of the video!  So, it went from 2 or more hours a night to just about an hour!
3.  I no longer worry that someone will see me lifting only 10 lbs. and be embarrassed that I am not lifting more.
4.  If I am doing my cardio class, I won't turn the wrong way and knock the person next to me out!  And again, I can do it wrong and no one else can even tell.
5.  I don't have to worry about locking stuff away because someone might take my wallet.
6.  I still have the group support of a class by joining the message boards and WOWY!
7.  With all the videos Beachbody offers, I never get bored.  I choose the workout I want to do and when I want to do it.
8.  With Team Beachbody I got a coach to help me for free, the gym never offered that!
9.  I no longer pay for a service I never seemed to use!
10.  No worries about using some sweaty machine because the last person did not wipe it down.
Ok, I could probably keep this list going, but you get the point.  As of now, I see no need for a gym membership.  I am much fitter now then I ever was by going to the gym!  I enjoy my time, my workouts, the variety,...
I will continue to Bring It in my living room with a simple task of just pushing the play button!

Hey Heather!

Work let their guard down, so I can post! :D

This post is soooo true, I had a few brief memberships to gyms and I would usually stick to the track because it had the least amount of people on it!

My favorite part of this blog is "I won't turn the wrong way and knock the person next to me out!" :D

Keep the awesome thoughts coming!Mandy

I almost killed a lot of people doing the "class' of the month. I am so uncoordinated! But, doing these workouts in my own home is awesome. Right now I can't imagine going back to the gym!
