About Me

My photo
A little about me. In my normal life, I am a civil engineer who sits behind a desk everyday. I got married to my wonderful husband in 2006. Since meeting him and our many days of eating out and less working out, my weight started to creep up. In August 2007 my girlfriend wanted to get back in shape after her pregnancy. She talked me into running weekly with her. I agreed, and this began my plan to get my body back in shape. I wanted to add some additional workouts to my run, so I pulled out my old Slim in 6 videos. At the same time, I re-found the online message boards at Beachbody where I meet a lot of great people who kept me committed to my fitness goals. I also found a great coach who was there everyday to help me stay on track! Today, I'm still working to sculpt my body and get it into the best shape ever. As I have progressed through my body's transition, I decided to become an Independent Beachbody Coach to help others reach their fitness goals! I realized it was easier then I thought, and I really believe others can change their lives too!

10-Minute Trainer or P90X Review-- which Tony Horton workout is for you?

Here is another review of Ten Minute Trainer.

DVD review: 10-Minute Trainer or P90X -- which Tony Horton workout is for you?

by Gail Gedan Spencer, Weight Loss Examiner

Sure it's an infomercial but there's something about those P90X  commercials that suck me in every time. Perhaps it's the transformations, the motivation. Perhaps it's Tony Horton, the hunky 50ish personal trainer who leads the charge.

But there's no way on Earth that I'm ready for that level of workout. So when Beachbody came out with Tony Horton's 10-Minute Trainer I was thrilled that I could work out with Tony at a lower level.

But 10-Minute Trainer's lower level is still a butt-kicking workout. It's just done 10 minutes at a time so you can see the end of the tunnel with the countdown clock.

I did the Total Body workout and I can't believe how sore I am today. It's a blend of push-ups, crunches and resistance band moves that I sandwiched into the warm-up and cooldown segments. Tony and his workout partners show you modifications but there are no sissy moves here. The key to making the segments so effective is that these are compound moves. While you're working your arms, you're also working your core, your glutes and everything else.

There also are 10-minute segments devoted to abs, cardio, lower body and yoga flex (power yoga, something Tony's especially good at). The set includes a resistance band, a 10-day diet and recipe cards.

Once you have become a muscular, lean machine, you can try Beachbody'sP90X system. The set of DVDs is packaged in a sleek black brick and feature a dozen workouts including core, yoga, plyo, legs and back, chest and back, abs, cardio and lots more. The industrial set features Tony and his workout buddies laughing it up while working out HARD. You also get a great comprehensive nutrition plan designed by Carrie Wiatt, probably the best nutrition plan I've ever seen packaged with a DVD set.

Another Success! Emily!

For those looking at Ten Minute Trainer wondering if its even remotely possible to get results in ten minute workouts, I have to share Emily's story!  Emily was on fire!  She followed the plans recommended by the program and stacked the workouts.  But, at most she did 30 minutes a day!  Tony is intense!  He knows how to pack a lot in 10 minutes.

Now, here is Emily before she started TMT.

Now, drumroll,.........

Here is Emily after!

Now, Emily's story in her own words.

On December 30, 2007, my journey began weighing in at 168lbs.  I had a revelation the previous day, my 29th birthday no less, that I was eating just a bit too much and chose foods that were so unhealthy for my body.  But the weight gain was not all of a sudden...I packed on the weight slowly and steadily for the past 9 years.  A big part of the reasons were: I didn't know what I really wanted to do with  my life; and, being in a 7 year relationship that wasn't going anywhere.  Ultimately, it ended a few years ago, thus adding even MORE bulk to my frame.  In the end, I was tired of having back and knee pains from the excess weight so I decided to get off the couch and do something about it.  I popped in Turbo Jam and followed along with Mindy.  My savior doing low-impact moves to save my knees.

Anyways, Heather approached me for my success story with 10-Minute Trainer, so I will not bore you with my entire story.  By the time I started training with Tony, I was 124lbs, plateau'd, and had no definition.  I started with the 10-Day Lean Jean Challenge, in hopes that it will break through my dreaded plateau.  I followed along the 2 a day workouts and ate as close to the 1000 calories needed to drop inches.  I ended up losing 2lbs and a bit less than 2" all around.  I was pleasantly surprised.  I, then, proceeded to the accelerated rotation for the next 4 weeks.  Slowly and surely, I was seeing definition in my stomach and other things getting smaller and tighter.  In the end, Turbo Jam and Rockin' Body resurfaced in replacing all of the TMT's cardio work...as I missed them dearly.  I'm happy to report that in the 6 weeks, I've lost 7.5" and 4lbs.

Phase 2, here I come

Today's workout is the first in Phase 2.  It's hard to believe that week 5 is here already.  It seems like yesterday that this new journey into P90X just began.

Day 29 is Chest, Shoulders and Triceps followed by Ab Ripper X.  I also had a little extra energy at the end so decided to do a little Ten Minute Trainer Cardio work.

Boy that was a tough day, but it felt great!

Chest, shoulders and triceps is a different routine then I was doing the first 30 days.  This switch is designed to help you avoid a plateau.  I think it will work.  Today was a lot of new moves, more intense push-ups and definitely some tough shoulder and tricep work.  This rotation of push-ups includes the push-ups with claps in the middle, one armed push-ups, they push-ups that slide your arms to the side to incorporate a shoulder fly.  I love the variety.  In this workout is also more weight work to get your shoulders and triceps to really feel the burn.

Once I finished that intense workout, I did my standard Ab Ripper X.  I weight deserately to get to the mason Twists at the end because I know my torture is soon over.  But, wanting those 6 pack abs means doing the work.  And ab ripper X will get me there!

Since I seemed to have a little extra energy, I decided to do a little bonus workout.  Where that extra energy came from was a surprise, must have been that recovery week was what my body needed to jump start Phase 2.

My bonus workout was the 10 minute trainer cardio workout.  This workout comes with a resistance band that straps to a door and goes around your waist.  I opted to skip the extra resistance work.  I am so glad I did.  the cardio workout is 10 minutes, 10 moves each a minute each.  It reminds me a lot of Plyometrics in P90X with some jumping in tires.  It made me feel like I was training for football practice, running away from the defensive line.   All I know it was short, fun and I was soaking wet when I was done.  I will definitely add some more of the 10 minute workouts into my daily rotation.  And I will remember to use this on days were I am short on time.  No more excuses, here I come.
